My Story

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer who has sold over a million books. I had some difficult years when I lost my mum, my longterm relationship broke down and I dealt with a serious health problem. I found it nearly impossible to keep writing. I had to earn a living. At one point I was working three jobs: dog sitting, freelance writing and remote-assisting a dude running a startup dating site. When finally in a position where I could work on Endlords full-time, I got the manuscript finished in under a year.

My job now is to get the book to you as soon as possible.

I write gritty massively-scaled Epic Fantasy. The late Robert Jordan called me a striking storyteller. Booklist described the Sword of Shadows series as,"Outstandingly rendered... A uniquely powerful epic fantasy series of enormous scope, peopled by fascinating, compelling characters whom readers will take to their hearts.”

I live in San Diego, California, where I get up early in the morning to walk in the mist and listen to the coyotes howl.

The Sunset Tower

The night a Russian stole my drink

“The woman sitting on the bar stool next to me had cheekbones so acutely angled you could rest loose change on them. Her dark hair was pulled up and back against her scalp. A topknot at the highest point of her skull secured the hair in a ponytail so long I could not see the end of it from my seat.”
